The MRes is an award that may be the first step towards an academic research career. It would also be relevant for students keen to pursue research in other organisations with client-focused settings.
The degree programme provides opportunities to develop advanced research skills, and assessments are focused on real world relevant outputs (such as a research protocol for a funding application and a potentially publishable paper for submission to the peer-review process). Individual modules may be available to applicants wishing to acquire particular research skills.
There are two taught modules (Research Methods and Applied Research) designed to develop skills in, and awareness of, the modern research environment and delivered via seminars, workshops, online learning and independent study. A major component of this course is the Research Project, which offers students the opportunity to carry out an extensive piece of research, or to produce a client report, with the expectation of an output suitable for submission to the peer-review the process for potential publication.
